By special act of the Connecticut state legislature, every town in Connecticut has been asked to name a local historian, with duties unspecified. The town of Avon named Nora Howard, Executive Director of The Avon Historical Society, as town historian in 2000.  As Historian, Nora is responsible for keeping records of Avon's past and present, as well as answering questions on local history that the town may receive.
